Welcome to the Sebasticook Chapter
of the North American Hunting Dog Association (“NAVHDA”). Our
Chapter was formed in the year 2000 and maintains an active
membership of nearly 100 members. Our purpose is the same as
the national Association. We are dedicated to preserving and
promoting the versatile hunting dog breeds through education of the
public and the training and testing of the versatile breeds.
We promote game conservation through the use of well-trained hunting
dogs.
Our Chapter events are held in Central
Maine’s Belgrade Lakes region, approximately 20 miles northwest of
our state capital, Augusta, and easily accessible via I-95. We
provide a full calendar of training clinics from April through
September coordinated by experienced trainers and handlers who will
take time to help handlers further develop their dogs and
themselves.
We hold two NAVHDA-sponsored tests each year
– in early June and mid-September – and we help prepare handler/dog
teams interested in testing. In addition, in early Spring, we
participate in sportsmen’s shows throughout the state as well stage
an indoor clinic focused on obedience training and health and safety
issues.
But we’re not all about hard work. We
pride ourselves on our friendly, supportive members and our festive
social events. Our annual meeting is held each January in a
local restaurant. Our semi-annual meeting as well as a no-host
dinner is held each June in conjunction with the Spring test.
During the Fall test weekend, we hold a special dinner featuring our
annual shotgun raffle drawing and fundraising auction and raffle.
You never know what will be on the auction table – gifts from our
sponsors, gently used hunting and dog training items, and the
occasional white elephant donation that brings on the laughs.
We welcome you to train or test your
dog with us and join in our social events. We hope you enjoy
our Web site which is currently under re-development. Please
feel free to contact me or any of our officers for any questions you
may have.
