Breeder’s License (with pigeons) & Training Permit

Posted in Gossip, Training & Questions at 2:51 pm by Stephen Babine

HELP!!!! I hear a few stories out there about the procurement and obtaining the Breeder’s License (Rock Dove Permit?) and Training Permit that has me more than puzzled. Need input please.

I have read, awhile back, the regulations/requirements for the Game Breeder’s License (plus Rock Dove permit) and was amazed at how not in tune with what I see in use out there in dog training land. I don’t recall seeing one person’s pens, including The Chapter’s, that meet the requirements. I have not had a license or training permit for over five years. I keep to myself, train alone mostly, and have a gated 1400 acres to train on and have not seen a warden once. I did have the county sheriff’s office, patrol officer, stop in my yard one evening after a training session (shooting a few birds too) in my back yard lot to answer a local fear complaint. You see I live very close to the State Prison and even closer to the prison farm. Almost next door.

He said after explaining the report he was following up on, “Oh, I see you are training dogs. That is what I thought. I see you running your dogs out back now and then. No problem. And off he went. Had he asked for permits, etc. I probably would be telling this story from behind bars.

I hear mostly the visit from Inland goes like this: “I see, training dogs huh? How many birds? Do you sell any? Pens are a little small but okay.” Signs the paper and done. Or doesn’t even look at the pens and says, “Training dogs? Okay.” And signs papers. And in a call to a local pigeon racer he says, “We don’t even get or have any loft permits.” Don’t believe their lofts would pass either.

Waz up with you? How do we get legal? Lie? Say, we only buy as needed and shoot em within 24 hours so, any cage is enough?

And I think Lenny was only wanting to get for pigeon loft of homers and no quail, etc. use license. His setup is fine, very clean, and not over crowded but was told only good for 2 pigeons only. I think it is like 4′ X 8′ by 8′ high with an attached Avery, maybe another 3′ X 8′ of wire.

Too bad, so sad that so many seeming adults can’t tell the difference between a green hat and a quail anymore. What have we become?
